The short version
- Be funny, not mean. If the only joke is that someone gets hurt, it isn't a joke.
- Roast ideas, takes and public figures freely. Bad opinions, sports teams, celebrities, brands and pineapple on pizza are all fair game.
- Roast private people only if they asked for it, like a #RoastMe post they made themselves.
- Your alias protects you, so protect everyone else's. Never reveal or guess who is behind an alias.
Never allowed
These get posts removed and accounts suspended or banned, no matter how funny they were meant to be.
- Doxxing: sharing or hinting at anyone's real name, address, workplace, phone number, photos or other personal details, or trying to unmask an alias.
- Threats and incitement: threatening, wishing or encouraging violence or self-harm against anyone.
- Hate: attacking people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or serious illness.
- Harassment: targeting the same person again and again, pile-ons, or following someone around the app after they've blocked or muted you.
- Sexual content: nudity, pornography or sexual content of any kind.
- Anything involving minors in a sexual, violent or humiliating way. We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.
- Impersonation: pretending to be a real person or brand in a way people could believe. Satire and parody must be obviously satire.
- Illegal stuff: selling drugs or weapons, fraud, and anything else that breaks the law.
- Spam and scams: mass posting, fake engagement, misleading links, and buying or selling aliases or accounts.
- Stolen content: posting someone else's work in a way that infringes their copyright. Memes are fine; reposting a whole movie is not.
Gray areas
Comedy lives near the line, so context matters. We look at who the joke is aimed at, whether it punches at an idea or at a person, and whether the target can laugh along. When a roast of a private person stops being fun for them, it stops being allowed. If you're not sure, roast the take, not the person.
What happens if you break the rules
Most problems get a nudge, not a ban. Repeated or serious violations escalate:
- Post removed, with a note explaining why.
- A warning.
- A 24-hour mute: you can read but not post, reply or react.
- A 7-day suspension.
- A permanent ban of the alias and the email or phone number behind it.
Some things skip straight to a permanent ban, including doxxing, credible threats and anything involving the sexual exploitation of minors.
Keeping yourself comfortable
You can report, block or mute anyone, filter keywords you don't want to see, and choose who can reply to your posts. Reports are private: the person you report is never told who reported them.
Reporting
Use the report button on any post, reply or profile. For anything urgent, or if you can't use the app, email [email protected]. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
