What we collect
When you join the waitlist
- Your troll name (alias). This is public: it can show up on the Top inviters board and in invite links you share.
- Your email address. Private. We use it to send your invite and important updates.
- Who invited you, if you used someone's invite link, and when you signed up. This powers your place in line and the Top inviters board, which shows invite counts but never who invited whom.
- Your confirmation that you're 18 or older.
When the app opens and you use it
- Account details: your alias, avatar, bio and the email or phone number you sign in with.
- What you post and do: posts, replies, images, reactions, follows, the neighborhoods you join, reports you make, and your settings.
- Safety records: reports about you, moderation decisions, and the email or phone tied to a banned account, so bans stick.
Automatically
- Technical data such as IP address, browser and device type, and pages requested. Our hosting provider processes this to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Anti-abuse data: to stop bots from flooding the waitlist, we store a scrambled (salted and hashed) version of your IP address for up to one day. We never store the raw IP address for this.
- Cookies: the waitlist doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. Once you can sign in, we'll use essential cookies to keep you signed in. If we add analytics, we'll update this policy first.
How we use it
- To run TrollPlace: reserve your alias, create your account, show your posts, and send invites.
- To keep it safe: detect spam and abuse, review reports, and enforce our rules and bans.
- To check posts before they go up: we may use automated tools, including AI models from trusted providers, to spot content that breaks our Community Guidelines.
- To improve the product and fix bugs.
- To contact you about your account, invites, and changes to these policies.
- To meet legal obligations.
What other users can see
Your alias, avatar, bio, posts, replies, reactions and invite count are public, and posts you share outside the app can be seen by anyone. Your email, phone number, IP address and real identity are never shown to other users.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only:
- With service providers that help us run TrollPlace, under contracts that limit how they can use it. Today that means Vercel (hosting) and Supabase (database). As the app grows this may include email delivery, image storage, content moderation and crash reporting providers.
- For legal reasons: when required by law or valid legal process, to report child sexual abuse material to NCMEC, or to protect someone's safety. We push back on requests that are vague or overbroad.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist details: until the app opens and your account is set up, or until you ask us to remove them.
- Account and content: for as long as your account exists. Deleted content leaves our systems after a short backup period.
- Scrambled IP addresses used against bots: up to one day.
- The email or phone tied to a banned account, and records we must keep for legal reasons: as long as needed for that purpose.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to remove your waitlist spot, by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days, and we won't treat you differently for asking. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and database row-level security to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your login details safe and tell us at [email protected] if you notice anything wrong.
Age limit
TrollPlace is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has signed up, email us and we'll delete their information.
Where your data lives
TrollPlace is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed there.
Changes
We'll update this policy as TrollPlace grows. If we make a significant change, we'll give notice on the site or by email before it takes effect.
